Lights! Camera! Muddy Action!

After running 5 miles, what better way to ring in a Tuesday morning than trekking over to the local news station to film a segment on the Pretty Muddy run? Sounds like a dope time to me!
This would be a Pretty Non-Muddy before shot
Meghan and I were asked, after our dinner with the Pretty Muddy gang last week here in Tampa, to do a segment for Daytime with Cyndi and Lindsay at News Channel 8 in Downtown. Why not?! Kevin asked us to participate with one of the hosts in a mock-up mud obstacle/pit. Yayyyerrr!
We all arrived at the studio around 930am and were told that the segments were pre-recorded and we wouldn’t have to be on until the second recording segment around noon, so we had time to grab a quick bite before diving into the fun-pit and it also allowed the crew to finish setting up the mud (aka brownie batter as Meghan wished.) Meghan wanted to try out a place down the way called the Oxford Exchange that she’d seen had just opened. It was an awesome place full of books and coffee and tea…oh my! (But I’ll do a separate review post on it & other adventures in dining out because that’s too cool to not get a whole post to itself! 😉
It IS really too bad this isn’t brownie batter…((drools))
Pretty Muddy Tip: this mud is ‘imported’ mud and not just dirt from the areas where the races are held. No scratches or scrapes from rocks or sticks, ladies, this is high quality top soil! 😉
After a quick brunch we hung around the set for a bit and were even able to snag Jess for a quick break since she works right in the same building we were at.

She was not down to get in the pit….we tried using our coercion skills but those failed
Around noon, it was just about GO TIME!

The host who was doing our segment ended up being Lindsay MacDonald. If you are familiar with Daytime, you’ll know that Lindsay is also recognizable from The Spot and [in a time long ago] the Real World Seattle (I used to love watching that show!) and has been on local shows here in Tampa for some time now. She’s a regular host on Daytime now which airs to over 40 news stations across the country. She is also the nicest little athletic thing! She ran the 2008 Antarctica Marathon with her husband for charity. Gotta love a strong girl!
For the piece, Kevin talked about Pretty Muddy and why it is the go-to mud run of choice for girls to try out & then after the short segment, us 3 girls were to head into the pit: Meghan and Lindsay were set to ‘race’ each other (not really but for TVs sake) while I also hopped into the pit after them. On the sound of Kevin yelling “GO!” we all jumped right into the mud, which I have NEVER done before, and it was SO much fun! After our first ‘lap’, Lindsay yelled “let’s do that again!” and we just all jumped into the pit for laughs and giggles.

Our Pretty Muddy after shot

Meghan and I didn’t want all of this gloriousness to go to waste, so we played a bit until we were told we needed to grow up and get out so that the crew could clean up. Ok, so that really didn’t happen that way, but there was the occasional “huh?!” face from drivers passing by.
I know I talked about this in my Vlog from last week when I decided to give the race a shot, but I really am excited to do Pretty Muddy – so long as I am careful and in it for fun and remember to take the ‘go as fast as you can’ out of the equation. (Right now there is actually a Groupon to do the Tampa race on November 10 for $35 by the way! – it EXPIRES TONIGHT) A few of my girlfriends are already registered and I’m excited for a fun-filled day of girly-dirtiness! 😉 Life’s too short, why not give something new a try eh?

Have you done or considered doing a mud race/run you’ve never done before?

It looks like you had so much fun!! I like their t-shirts too. They’re “Pretty” awesome! I didn’t know that their mud is imported. I think I’ll be more apt to try the race now.

Did you just love it? I loved the fact that someone told you to “Grow up”, because that is what I always think about on mud runs. I escape back into my inner child whom just didn’t care about getting dirty. I cannot wait to see the segment Kat.
