It’s RACE WEEKEND! – The 38th MCM Expo

It’s still chilly and cool up here …of course lol…and I LOVE IT!
Better weather couldn’t have come in time for RACE WEEKEND! Now all I need is for these taper coughs and sniffles to GO AWAY and I’m golden!

Thursday morning I had 4 miles to run and was able to meet up with my coach, Amanda, at Centennial Park to get them in! It was great to meet Amanda and talk about Sunday’s race to ease some of my nervousness for sure.
We metro’d into DC in time for the expo opening afterwards so that we could grab the limited edition MCM Brooks swag and try to win SUPER sized goody bags [that didn’t happen but that’s ok]!
Nissan representin’!
We were able to hear the Marine Corps band play some tunes and all of the opening ceremony fun before heading in!

I’m SO glad we got to the opening, as it took about 10 minutes to get in & grab my bib and shirt before we were in the expo ready to shop!

We even found Miles, the MCM mascot!
As a proud Brooks ID member, I knew there was a ton of awesome and limited edition gear offered only at the MCM expo. Being the first-time marathoner that I am, I made sure to budget funds to go a little nuts with said gear 😉
We left with a ton of snacks and Honey stinger waffles, along with my haul of Brooks: MCM visor, shorts, sweatshirt, women’s jacket, tank, and the race shirt we were given with registration – Rock the Mock! It has a perfect mix of MCM tradition and style while being made of fleece and dri-fit material, I can’t wait to wear it post-race!
Yesterday, on a visit back to the Armory to grab my Brooks VIP port-o-potty pass (yes, these DO come in handy!) I ended up meeting Mr. Bart Yasso and being able to get some ‘First Timer’ advise from him: Enjoy the race, don’ worry about paces your first time, or else you won’t want to do another one again. Thanks Bart!
Everything seems very surreal to me right now still! I’ve walked and driven through some of the route through DC… Georgetown…and chatted with a few MCM vets at the expo to, getting tips and words of encouragement.
I am really a little terrified still. I’m running 26.2 miles when I’ve ‘only’ run 20. I know I can do it – I WILL do it. It’s nerve-wracking when venturing into the unknown … and I have no doubt that I will accomplish this goal that I’ve set out to do over the past 4+ months.
I want to THANK EVERYONE who’s been there to support me…friends, family, blends, and readers….your words of encouragement have kept me going and kept me accountable for setting out to do something I never imagined I’d do. I never thought I’d do a half marathon much less a full marathon. I never thought as I got older I’d push harder to do things tougher than I’d ever done. I will do my best to give it my all and make everyone proud – including The Little Things for Cancer who is the charity I’m running for and who an amazing job supporting families who are going through cancer treatment in their lives.
Tomorrow, it’s happening – OORAH!!

I hope it goes so well for you! I ran MCM last year (with Hurricane Sandy) and I’m jealous of your weather! I loved all of the spectators and running through Georgetown was amazing! I hope you love every step you take!
