Getting Recharged – Our 3 Day Refresh Experience

Over the course of the last 5 years, our eating habits have adjusted to a fairly gluten free [me: dairy free] way of life after intolerances popping up in the form of stomach issues. Hubby is pretty immune to most things, but he says he doesn’t mind eating what I eat or focusing more on being health as we both get older. So, he’s also started Shakeology and a regimen that includes more vegetables than Fruity Pebbles.




When I was in Vegas, the 3 Day Refresh released and I was PUMPED to give it a try. We had our eyes on the Ultimate Reset, but with that being 21 days we wanted to wean into something over the course of a shorter time span – our prayers were answered. Now, the goal was never to lose weight or ‘diet’ – it was to REFOCUS our perspective on food and be sure we took the time to detox our bodies while also seeing it as a fuel source to understand when it’s okay to sprinkle in a cheat every now and again. We wanted to do this without dangerously-low caloric intake being a staple that we’ve seen in most detox programs from juicing to fasting. With hubby being T1, there was no way we could do something like that and didn’t feel it was worth it for our overall health. The 3 Day Refresh seemed like the perfect fit!




Prep: Looking at the program, we knew we wanted to start it on a Monday since we were pretty regimented during the week with lunches and meals at work. We went to the grocery store, like normal, and stocked up on veggies and fruits along with green tea for our daily meal needs. Basically, we were having Shakeology and fruit with water for breakfast, water all throughout the day, a Fiber Sweep drink in the mid morning, lunch including a Vanilla Fresh plant protein drink and a fruit and veggie serving, afternoon tea and more water, an afternoon snack of veggies, and then a dinner with more Vanilla Fresh and veggies before water and bedtime.




Day 1: We felt this day was the easiest. We were excited to start the program and only tweaked Shakeology without almond milk (water and fruit instead) plus no meats for these days.




Day 2: The challenge began in Day 2 as both of us started to feel a little more tired than usual. I just taught the night before (PiYo) so had to be forgiving of my fatigue. Hubby also decided to take his workouts easy (usually did 2-a-days) with only P90x3 30 minute workouts in the PM after he had more food in his system. I started to notice that he didn’t need insulin as much as he normally did. Clean-eating was really starting to pay off and kept both of us with steady levels with our Blood Sugar.






Day 3: Knowing this was our final day, we were excited. We actually saw we ‘overly’ food-prepped and had leftover broccoli and some cut up fruit. It was better to be safe than sorry right? I could see a visible difference in hubby, but not with me. My goal wasn’t to lose any weight but to instead begin a clean tummy slate of sorts. I wanted to cleanse myself from all of the junk I’d been eating and help myself get geared up to focus going forward. We loved drinking green tea during the cleanse, it was a treat between meals – our water intake was up to almost a gallon each a day.

Afterwards: I ended up losing 4 pounds and G lost 5. He has been working on some weight loss while I’m focused on maintenance along with leaning out through nutrition and exercise.  I always emphasize to others that the 3 Day Refresh wasn’t intended for weight loss long term – it’s a way to recharge and reset to continue whatever goals you have planned for nutrition and wellness. While our goals were different, we both gained a lot from the 3 Day Refresh. We both LOVE drinking green tea within the day now and have steered away from mindless snacking. We started eating meat again, but I haven’t had any red meat since. We’ve mostly craved fish and chicken off and on, but find ourselves snacking on veggies or drinking lots of water.


We definitely see this as something we want to do [possibly] once a quarter to reset ourselves each quarter and maintain a healthy nutrition focus.


My 2 cents – THIS IS NOT A CRASH DIET OR WAY TO QUICKLY LOSE WEIGHT LONG TERM. We did these before and after photos just to see how we would look and I didn’t think I looked any differently, nor did I expect to. You’ll see many people who’ve done the Refresh post how much ‘weight’ they’ve lost in 3 days and we noticed it too but it’s mostly from the junk and calories cut out during that time to make way for liquids and natural foods to cleanse the system. IT’S NEVER ABOUT WEIGHT, it’s about inches if anything and LONG TERM RESULTS. It’s about training your body to crave whole foods and then enjoy some cheats off and on but not always. You can’t DO THIS REFRESH and then go back to eating badly and expect what you did to stick. It’s about saying to yourself “How is my perspective on what I eat going to change how I view my intake each day?” Indulgence can make an appearance, and we should look at most food as fuel. End scene.

    I can totally see a difference in both of you!

    I’d love to try a cleanse like this that incorporates actual food… but I might have to get the courage to go meatless for 3 days.

    I’ve seen a couple other people post the 3 day refresh with great results like yours! I should to do a cleanse at some point. probably soon.

    Reminds me of the 3 day juice cleans I did (that I only lasted 2.5 days on and cheated every morning with oatmeal at breakfast.) I felt a bit fatigued, but very cleaned/leaned out. I also lost a few pounds but they came back after about a week. It really helped me get out of my snack habits!

    I think these kind of refreshes are great, and a reason why I see a nutritionist, they help us get back on track and we end up feeling better and staying on track! Great job to you and hubby 🙂

    You look great Kat, and did before the cleanse. I have never tried anything like that, but since I become a grizzly bear when hungry, I don’t think I ever will. My husband asks me “Do you need to eat” and I know I am being a grumpy girl! I do keep focused on eating well, with the occasional treat thrown in. By the way, my running coach thinks you need to drink your weight in water every day!
