For this week’s Training Tip of the Week I’ll talk about another move in PiYo: Quad Stretch to Dancer’s Pose. I’ve done a quad stretch all throughout my time running and have attempted Dancer’s pose in the off chance I took a yoga class. When I decided to become certified, I had to focus on mastering the movement so that I could share it with others – this also made me remember my POWER of ONE mantra to see I had to take it from one position before I could transition into the next.
With any stretch, the body can take 10 seconds or more to recognize it’s even being stretched, so you have to hold it for that long before you can allow yourself to work into a deeper hold. Quad stretch is a great example of a stretch this applies to. I demonstrate the movement BELOW keeping these thoughts in mind:
* Have balance on your standing leg first before grabbing the other leg from the inside of the foot
* Begin to aim your knees towards one another in the quad stretch
* Spread your toes for balance on the standing foot before reaching with arm and leg into Dancer’s Pose
