The Spartan Race goes Cruisin’! + Spartan Up! Giveaway

In my post on Monday, I recapped my experience at Reebok Headquarters through their shift to focus on Fitness and how their apparel and involvement has changed to stay in that direction. One of the affiliations Reebok has is theirs with the Spartan Race series.  I did the Spartan Race with a friend and client earlier this year and saw what a huge challenge it was – but like any other race, it brought a sense of accomplishment to both of us as we FINISHED what many people never started.

The Spartan experience revolves around Obstacle course challenges incorporating running, strength, and pure GRIT! There was even a Spartan Obstacle course set up outside of the Reebok Headquarters.

I teeter between being a ‘runner-runner’ and enjoying the thrill of the obstacle course race, or OCR, realm. The challenge of using strength and going into uncomfortable situations is never an easy one to take on, but it’s always one that shows true capabilities and builds character within all of us. I’ve seen this in myself and in others! Hubby is the one between the two of us who LOVES these kinds of races. He also did the Warrior Dash with me and has been itching to do another OCR ever since.

I recently learned about all of the various races incorporated in the race series. I participated in the Spartan Sprint Special Ops race  – that was new this year. There are even other distances and challenges that go up to and beyond a marathon distance!

They have even launched a NEW race, called their Spartan Cruise! There are Spartan Races in 17 countries, and there are themed cruises, but never a themed Spartan Race cruise – until now. Spartan Race, the world’s premier obstacle race company, will host a deluxe Caribbean cruise from the Port of Miami to a private island in the Bahamas on March 6 to 9, 2015. The three-night Friday afternoon through Monday morning experience will feature an all-inclusive Norwegian Cruise Line cruise on the luxurious Sky from Miami, a 3+mile/15+ obstacle  Spartan Sprint on a private island in the Bahamas’ Great Stirrup Cay, live music, dancing, all meals, and what’s considered best of all: a $50,000 prize pool for Elite racers.

There’s a Sweepstakes going on to win entry into this new series! Go HERE to find out MORE!

Disclaimer: I was provided a free race entry and one to giveaway in exchange for a post on the Spartan Cruise. All opinions about the race experience and links to my posts are my own.

Hubby will have his chance at the Sprint 2.14.15 (a birthday gift for him) as he takes on the Special Ops Sprint here in Tampa!

Spartan is definitely the most difficult of all the OCR I’ve done. I think that’s great that they are branching out to so many countries. They really bring such a sense of pride and accomplishment to their participants. I read recently that this will be the first year that their organization will actually take on any profit – which amazes me. I had no idea how much money went into creating an OCR, but I guess it’s quite a bit.

I love Spartan racing. I’ve done a sprint and have a Super Spartan lined up for the end of September. This sounds like an incredible Run/OCR-cation. Having one of these in the middle of my marathon training has aided in making sure I have a balanced work out routine and don’t spend all my time focusing on my legs and running.

I’m planning on doing the Spartan Super next month (as long as my broken toe is healed!) and this would provide the perfect motivation to keep going with my Spartan journey (and possible crazy trifecta?!)

A Spartan race would definitely get back into some much-needed strength training – after my October 5 marathon, that’s my major goal for this winter!

I am headed to Vermont next weekend for the Ultra Beast. I am scared and excited all at once. I’ve been training but living in Texas I am afraid of that mountain. Finishing that race would definitely send me to the stratosphere!
