Thriving in Chaos Takes Fuel

Hi, I’m Kat and I’m a busy-body.

I happen to be the crazy type of person who feels she thrives in chaos. From working all day, to teaching 6 times a week, fitting in my own workouts, family time, and mixing in fun in between – I could say I have no idea HOW I do it, but I do know that it takes the proper fuel to keep me going – with a smile on my face – using some planning and key players in my day!

CHAOS

I have been a Beachbody fan since I did Insanity in 2010, and most of you know my story related to that. However, I thought “Nah, I have my protein shake, I don’t need it.” Fast forward to 2012 and a friend Caitlyn gave me a sample to actually try – while I liked it, I felt like I didn’t want to spend the money on it and didn’t give it too much thought. Shakeology was not a product I readily became a fan of when I first tried it.

It took another year after that for me to give it an honest chance – to see what ALL was in the product and just what it could do for [not only] myself and my family. After seeing G have amazing results with his A1C being lower JUST from changing his diet with Shakeology for breakfast, I knew I had to dig deeper into the wellness impact of this superfood shake. It contains enough nutrients to fill 5 salads, and all of the essential vitamins we used to buy separately. With it’s ability to enhance G’s immunity and lower his blood glucose, the investment is worth it alone just for him. For myself, I know I used to buy flax seed, chia, goji berry, cordyceps, you name it – I bought it all seperately. Over time, vitamins were very hard on my stomach and I weaned off of most of them. Yet, I still needed to FEEL the effects of those I was taking. Shakeology helps me do just that – it gives me energy, whole food carbs, protein, and TONS of nutrition that I couldn’t get on my own – Not on the time I have in a day anyway.

Aside from Shakeology I have started to be mindful of fueling my body right with proper hydration, including an effort to take in 2.2 Liters or water or more a day – which is easier said than done. I also drink 2 cups of Green tea a day – I quit coffee years ago and won’t drink it again since I love more of what goes IN it than it’s benefits as a standalone energy source.

PLAYERS

With my workouts each week including more and more strength training, I’ve worked at upping my protein intake to over 100g a day as well as keeping my carbs under that mark. [From personal experience, food tracking on My Fitness Pal helps me make sure I balance this out throughout the day.] When we work ourselves to the bone either in a day job or teaching or working out, we have to make sure we have energy yes, while also recovering our muscles with protein at the most appropriate times. For me, adding in a Protein Blend such as Body Teach Pro 24 (Vitamin Shoppe brand) is an awesome addition about twice a day – I even add it TO my Shakeology with fruit and almond milk for THE BEST and most FILLING breakfast ever.

I am also sure to snack throughout the day with foods that give me the balance I need of healthy fats, carbs, and proteins! Quest bars have been a staple in my backpack for some time now and I’ve recently added in hemp hearts to my diet. Quest bars are loaded with protein and healthy carbs as well as tons of dietary fiber to get things moving throughout the day while keeping you full. I tried Manitoba Hemp Hearts after having a sample in my Fitbloggin bag and have since been hooked! I enjoy the added flavor in oatmeal, protein shakes, and trail mix! Per 30 gram serving, Hemp Hearts contain 10 grams of plant-based protein and 10 grams of Omegas.

These snacks and foods are just a fraction of what I eat throughout the day. Veggies and fruits play a big part of the natural fuel I use to ensure nutrients play a big part in my everyday diet also!

What key players are part of your every day food and fuel?

How do you keep a balance of fats, proteins, and carbs?

Awesome Kat! I’ve tried Shakeology in the past and really liked it! But I haven’t committed to it because I’m not a huge shake person. My hubby really loves it though!

When I make it a snack it tends to fit in my life easiest! Our hubbys are super similar!

Such an important message – when you’re highly active, your body needs the proper amount of fuel to power through and stay well conditioned and functioning properly! I eat healthy foods throughout the day – except I’m at wellllll over 100g of carbs! Haha #allthecarbs – I get them from veggies, fruits, and sweet potatoes mostly! YUM

I’m so glad that I switched up my breakfast routine and am now drinking a Shakeology shake each morning for breakfast. Like you, my stomach has had a difficult time in taking multiple pills and vitamins a day, and thus, my body lacked the fuel it needed to properly function. I’ve noticed a huge change since I started drinking Shakeology about two months ago, and can’t wait to continue on my Shakeology journey!

Hi Kat! I’m a fellow SPA and came across your blog today. I’m also a trainer, group fitness instructor and someone who needs a lot of fuel to live a very physical and active life. I also just tried Shakeology for the first time and really loved it. As far as things I NEED — lots of water (and yet I could always get more), lots of protein, lots of veggies and SLEEP! I tend to snack on cottage cheese, nuts, Greek yogurt and fruit throughout the day, and my trick is that I always add all those items together to make sure I always have a complete protein in every snack. Have a great Wednesday and thanks for sharing!

Oh I definitely am one of those people who thrives on chaos! Although I’m trying to do less of that. Being properly fueled is so important for keeping up with everything!

I used to hate drama and chaos and all that jazz… And honestly I still do, however RIGHT NOW – I am going through drama withdrawal and I want it back……. YOU know what I am referring to! LOL!
