Every once in a while we need to RELEASE THE KRAKEN!
A tough day…a busy week…choas ensuing all around us. Yet, it may not be the smartest thing to take it out on a wall in the house or scream for fear of scaring our neighbors…
So, why not TAKE IT OUT ON THE WORKOUT!
We all know the physical benefits that can come from working out. Weight loss, lower cholesterol, controlled diabetes, muscle tone are just the shortlist of physical exercise benefits.
However, the mood and mental benefits are just as comparable!
When we were in Boston with Reebok ONE and were able to hear Dr. John Ratey, author of Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain, speak we were reminded of the neurological benefits of exercise.
Did you know that endorphins and chemicals called endocannabinoids flood your system during exercise and the ‘high’ is similar to that of being on opiates? How crazy is that? AND EXERCISE IS LEGAL 😉 When we stress out from the many issues we have in life, those situations can literally damage our brains and exercise repairs that damage in a positive way.
From personal experience, I know that depression and anxiety run rampant in my family and history. Much of my story isn’t just related to the outer appearance changing and how I lost weight and changed my body to feel better about myself. When I quit smoking, which was an awesome positive step, it also left me feeling a bit more stressed out. I didn’t want to turn to negative factors like smoking [again] or even alcohol, so I turned to exercise. While it did become my new ‘addiction’ it became a healthy one that sparked my interest with working in the field as a fitness professional to pay forward what it’d done for me unto others.
Do you workout to alleviate a bad day?
