This July, I was privileged enough to join the Sweatpink squad at the 2017 IDEA WORLD Fitness Blogfest that was being held in my backyard of Las Vegas, NV!
I’ve always loved this community of fitness lovers who ban together to build each other up in order to be healthier and happier — all through social media and community events and amazing brands! As a part of IDEA World, we were able to attend the entire IDEA World 2017 conference weekend which was being held at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Since I just got back from leaving my nugget for 5 days while I was in NOLA, it was nice to be able to attend and come grab snuggles off and on back at home! … color me excited!
We kicked off on Thursday and took part in tons of workouts, sessions, networking events, expo time, and more for the whole weekend!
I have to say that I was ready to immerse myself into everything HEALTH AND FITNESS. I’ve been so consumed with LIFE happening – in the form of taking care of everyone in my household – that I was excited to focus on my professional passion! It’s also an added bonus to be able to apply what I was about to learn into what I love doing both as my career and at home as well!
There was so much action packed into ONE weekend, so let me break it down for you into chunks so we can squish as much into one post as we can, deal?
Fitness & Workouts
Thursday morning, I headed out to meet some of the Blogfest girls for a run around the strip! A few of us helped to organize a start time and location, so that we had some girls wanting to do a 2 mile walk while others of us ran a 5k down and back to the Convention Center.
These girls were some lucky duckies. It was a particularly cooler week in Las Vegas, meaning that it wasn’t a hundred and death degrees outside. So, we took the random humidity for what it was worth and got in some miles together catching up and getting to know some new faces in the blogosphere.
On Friday morning, we had a sponsored workout from Propel with ModelFit instructor Triana. Since I am the HIIT and hard core high intensity girl most days, I was looking forward to the change up to my routine! Tree (as she is referred to on the IG tip) did a great job showing us how to use lower weights and our own body weight to sculpt and tone in this hour-long workout.
We enjoyed lots of refreshment from Propel, and also made sure to take advantage of a very colorful photo-booth set up for us to play with … #whenbloggerscollide.
FYI, the dumbbells were made of foam…. but this photo-ready kettlebell was NOT.
Learning from the best
A huge part about coming to the IDEAFit conference that I love the most is LEARNING from some of the TOP professionals in our field. In Blogfest, you get the double whammy of learning how to market your blog and use social media better as well as learn about fitness and motivation — I had to make sure my brain was ready to soak it all up like a sponge!
We were privileged enough to have speakers come into our days spent with Blogfest and also to get to meet top trainers and influencers in the expo and during the World convention.
Here’s some highlights:
My girl Katy Widrick, social media guru and super mom extraordinaire, kicked off our Blogfest keynote by helping us to learn how to make our old content new again. Coming back into the world of blogging, this session was perfect for me! I have so much content I need to go back into and review so that it can fit into the world we’re in today and so that content doesn’t just get lost in the vaulted time capsule known as my blog back office.
Todd Durkin, personal trainer, master motivator, best selling author and life transformer gave an amazing piece about #congatiasm – his term used to refer to creating a culture of contagious enthusiasm in our community! I’ve looked up to Todd for quite some time, learning about his gym and how it progressed from a small facility and grew solely based on his love for the community he was in. Todd really hit home with everything he spoke about to me, because I am in a place of transition myself within my career both online and in person. He made sure to remind us to find the top 5-ish things in our life we are most passionate about and to MAKE TIME to get them in no matter what. He also emphasized how important it is to surround yourself with those who support you and push you to be better, a.k.a. thoroughbred horses .. and to stay away from those who can appear to be jacka**es in our lives through negativity. I’ve dubbed that mission in my life #nodonkeys! .. or #nojacka**es if I could use asterisks in hashtags!
Personal trainer, coach, and author Jorge Cruz joined us for a breakfast with General Mills which focused on the mindfulness of getting in whole food nutrition to kick off the day!
Gunnar Peterson, one of my fave personal trainers best known for his work with professional athletes and celebrities, joined us for an overview about Gym Go. I will do a separate blog post about that ALL TOGETHER, but lets just say I am so excited that I heard that session! Gunnar is a dad of 4 who loves to train in his gym, but has limited time like most of us. He’s found a way to train others, one-on-one and in group sessions, virtually online! I’ve been praying for this kind opportunity and can’t wait to join the Gym Go team as a LIVE TRAINER!
