If you’re familiar with the group fitness world, you’re familiar with the organization known as AFAA: [the] Athletics & Fitness Association of America. When I originally began my career as a fitness professional, I certified with NASM (The National Academy of Sports Medicine) as a Certified Personal Trainer. Working with small groups, I soon realized I enjoyed the group fitness feel and needed to also certify to teach classes. AFAA was the first company I looked into due to their accreditation and merit in the fitness world. More on them in just a moment …
I used to be terrified of public speaking …
I can vividly remember transitioning from high school to college and looking at the prerequisite list of classes that I had to take for my Associate’s degree. The moment I saw “Public Speaking,” I froze! How was I going to pass a class I couldn’t even envision myself taking and doing well in?
Are you like me? Have you ever had a challenge in your way so LARGE there was no way you were going to conquer it because FEAR kept you back? That’s how I’ve always been when it comes to speaking in front of other people. Who knows if it’s because I’ve slowly matured over time and accepted scary challenges head-on, but the tides have turned! That day I decided to sign up to teach a class at my local gym only to then go on to audition [by accident] to become a Master Trainer, my whole world shifted.
Once you find your passion, you’re able to speak about it unapologetically.
When one door closes, another door opens.
You just don’t burn the bridge that brought you to that new door.
I decided to step back from being a Beachbody Live Master Trainer a year ago. I was no longer able to commit to many areas of my life that took energy from me that I just didn’t have. There was a need for me to compartmentalize each task I was to perform: duties as a mom, duties as a wife, taking care of my mom, and being present for each piece OF my life. If you’re like me, you understand the need avoid being the jack of all trades while being the master of NONE. It’s okay to be forever grateful for each season you experience in life, even if you have to let some go along the day. My BBL family will always hold a special place in my heart for making me the presenter that I am today in the world of fitness.
If you’re like me you also know that it’s not always about WHAT you know solely. Networking with amazingly talented people is necessary to continue to move forward in life and allow new doors to open.
Oh hey there, AFAA!
On the ride of life, I’ve been blessed to work with some extremely talented people. Enter: AFAA.
After working behind-the-scenes with the AFAA organization, I’m now able to continue my path as an educator to train more group fitness instructors!
These are my amazing colleagues who will present Group Fitness (and specialty) Instructor Workshops across the nation and internationally!
We carry life experience wherever we go. If we trust that we were meant to be in that position at just the right point and time, we can take valuable lessons away in our pocket to use later! This is how I feel about my life in the corporate world where I grew from a girl who was a 19-year-old know-it-all into a leader in a company. That same girl grew into a master instructor who passionately passes the torch to mentor others into becoming the leaders they may have never known they could become!
I’ll get some workshops under my belt, traveling to cities within this region on the Pacific/Mountain time zone area of the country. I look forward to meeting any of you who happen to sign up to certify with AFAA and/or take a workshop to perfect your new skills!
Stay tuned as I’ll be sharing this journey on my Instagram Stories and sharing upcoming workshops in the future, even heading into 2019!
Never stop trusting your purpose in this life – even if it’s still blurry to you at the moment.
