Last Dance

So today was the last long[er] run before the Women’s Half Marathon!
Last dance…last chance…for…LoOoooOOOveee
Ok quit it Kat, you know you can’t sing!
Seemingly, I know I’ve been a nut running 12-13 miles every Saturday anyway…I pretty much run a half marathon without running a half marathon. You know what though? I needed that. I am one to learn by repetition and if that’s what it takes to get my nerves out before I tackle this first “A” race and then another half every month through April of next year, then so be it!

I also got to try my new Halo headband. It worked awesome! It has a little band of rubber inside that wicks away the sweat from your face! I need more of these; and I heard they make hats! I also might not have been sweaty-sweaty because it was kind of cold this morning … for Florida. Starting at 5:45am, I went for 14 miles this morning. The only icky part of today’s run was my first time feeling calf tightness half way though and my first time chafing! Yep, never chafed. Around mile 8 I noticed my right arm (under the underarm part) was hurty and saw it was chafed. Great, another area to
slab miracle ointment on!
The group is still trying to adjust to having a consistent speed on long runs; since we’re “cold weather runners” and we keep speeding up and then slowing down…like little confused track stars. We have to keep each other in line, particularly on long runs, so we keep a consistent pace. That’s what friends are fooooooooor.
H, me, B.o.B., and P-Funk at breakfast. K had to go home and ice after her 18 miler.
And then we go to breakfast at the local Panera. And enjoy yummy breakfast sammiches while we laugh and joke about life and our silly running goals.
I know I am more than ready.. especially when I’m armed with lots of ice packs, Dwayne my Garmin, and packs of anti-inflammatory gel that I cling on to for life.
Bring it, Women’s Half!
I am attempting my first time making kale chips. I have a feeling I used too much salt, but I’ll still devour them. Take 2 will be much better I’m sure 😉
Happy Saturday! Are you chillaxing like me today?

I love that headband! I carry a small microfiber towel to wipe my brow with, maybe I need to get a headband.
Something I’ve noticed about chafing, it seems like it never happens in the same place twice! What’s up with that?

    Good luck in the race!

Enjoy your first half marathon…sounds like you are really well prepared, I had my first time to chafe about a month ago, and it was from the Halt dog spray that I carry. I was on a long run and it was hooked into my shorts with nothing between the plastic and my skin. Bad move, now I tuck my shirt in!

Remember- you only get one first half marathon, so enjoy every minute of it, even if it gets tough! It sounds like you’ve trained really well, so now it’s time to trust your training and let your body fly! I’m definitely relaxing right now because I ran my second half marathon this morning!

I had mistakenly thought you had raced a half marathon before. I guess it is because you run so many of them on weekends it seems.
