2014 WDW Race Weekend: Parks + Eats!

I couldn’t be more excited to be an Annual Pass holder [FINALLY] for Walt Disney World! During WDW Marathon weekend, Linz was game to humor me through the parks as we ate our way through Epcot and then hung out at Animal Kingdom, which I hadn’t been to before!
I was also SUPER psyched to use my new Magic Band again! This bad boy holds ALL of the information from the app and website My Disney Experience for hotel reservations, FastPass+, as well as dining reservations! It’s in pilot mode [still] only at Walt Disney World but Disneyland parkies are hoping it comes there soon!
Whenever at WDW or DL, I HAVE to have a Mickey Rice Crispie Treat. It’s a MUST. I believe they put magical pixie fairy dust in them that helps my runs. Let that be reason enough for me to indulge! You can find these in most of the giftshops OR fresh at any of the candy/bake shops all over property!
Before our Meetup Thursday, we at at Earl of Sandwich which is in Downtown Disney – I remember this place having a LONG line while we were in DL this summer. Linz told me that’s the only one on the West Coast – whoa! Staying away from TOO much gluten, I opted for their gluten-free chicken tortilla soup and the Berry Almond Chicken salad – both were PHENOMENAL! Earl is inexpensive to boot at around $8 a person to eat!

Epcot is known for it’s plethora of restaurants from all over the world! Also, the home of one of my favorite race fuels: RICE!
Thursday night, we made reservations on MDX (My Disney Experience) for Nine Dragons which is in China. I’d eaten here once before and knew they had delicious fried rice and meals for under $20!
Pausing for a quick Spaceship Earth photo before heading in!

Post-10k, we had character dining at Chef Mickey’s in the Contemporary hotel.
The buffet was glorious including eggs, BACON, potatoes, veggies, fruits – the works!

Minnie even stopped by to congratulate us on our race! This was a fun place where kids were able to see the characters up close and in person while they got a start to their day with breakfast!
Before the half on Friday night, we went back to Epcot for dinner at Tokyo Dining in Japan! Linz indulged in my favorite, their bento box, while I ate ALL of the sushi!

After the 10k Friday we jetted from Chef Mickey’s over to Animal Kingdom to use FastPass+ times we already set up through MDX! We made it just in time to ride Everest (WHAT a fun coast!), see the tree of life and all of the between places in the park, and ride the African Safari!

I even got to finally meet Dug and Russel from UP!

There’s definitely a TON more I want to go back and do. For example, I had NO idea there was the Boardwalk area in Epcot – yea, I know, newbie. So, I’d love to stay there and see all that Epcot has to offer. I remember going to Epcot as a kid and not appreciating it as much as I do now! Hubs is hyped and ready to dine at ALL of the restaurants and see it more for himself too! Same with Animal Kingdom!

What pre-race meal to you hunt for on Racecations?
How are theme parks different for you now versus when you were a kid?

I love Cuban at Bongos at Downtown Disney. A good combo of carbs, protein, good fats and fiber. I am glad you had a good time out there Kat. I love the Disney Races.

I’m obsessed with the sushi at Splitsville, surprisingly! I wasn’t prepared, dining-wise, for marathon weekend, but I’m on top of it for GSC!

When I was a kid, they were exciting and interesting. Now all I see is the same mass-produced souvenirs in every store and a huge money drain. I will admit to being pleasantly surprised by Epcot. The food and shopping in the international area were a little more unique than in the other Disney parks.

Mmmm, look at all those great eats! Epcot is my favorite Disney park–yes, because of all the food. I haven’t visited since middle school, but I remember having phenomenal crepes. 🙂
