I hope you all KICK OFF your week – the first one of FEBRUARY with a BANG as it’s Motivational Monday!
Post-Superbowl-party it can be tough to peel one’s self up and get MOVING but we can do this!
Post-Superbowl-party it can be tough to peel one’s self up and get MOVING but we can do this!
Especially to work that off π
This week’s Monday’s Motivation feature comes courtesy of a reader and fellow blogger, Kathryn! She is a fellow runner and LOVER of all things DISNEY!

Blog: From Dancing to Running
What is your favorite way to MOVE! My absolute favorite way to move is through dancing. Having started dancing at age four, I will always be a dancer at heart. However, since I started running last March dancing has taken a back seat to my running as I’ve been focused on training and preparing for various races, including my first half marathon which I ran at Disney World last weekend.
What is your #1 indulgence? Aside from the occasional treat, how do you substitute it? I love ice cream. When we buy it at the grocery store, I try to make sure we buy churn style since its a bit healthier than traditional ice cream. If I can’t substitute with churn style, I try to steer myself towards frozen yogurt instead.
Whatβs your go-to snack? Pretzels and carrot sticks. As a teacher, my lunch period starts at 10:25am each day. By the time school ends at 2:05, I’m usually staving. Fortunately, pretzels and/or carrots are easy enough to keep in my classroom and easily pull out after school while working with students and/or grading papers.
What advice do you have for those starting on a fitness journey? Don’t compare yourself to others. While it is easy to compare yourself to faster runners, more flexible athletes, etc. you are on your own fitness journey. We all start at different points in our lives and at different physical abilities. Don’t compare apples to oranges.
Bucket list destination/race/to-do? I’ve never been to Las Vegas, and the idea of running Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas and running down the strip just seems like the coolest thing a runner can do.
Favorite inspirational fitness personality/trainer/idol? Heather from Through Heather’s Looking Glass. When I first started running, Heather’s blog was one of the first I started reading, and I continue to be inspired by her own running journey. I met Heather during Disney World Marathon Weekend, and I must say she is just as sweet and down to earth in person as she comes across in her blog.
What workout apparel is your MUST have? My Champion Powerback Underwire sports bras. As somebody who is rather blessed in the chest area, these are the only bras that I have found to provide the necessary support needed while running. They also run by standard bra size instead of by small/medium/large, so they are more tailored to my specific support needs.
What do you wish you knew years ago that you know now? You can do whatever you put your mind to no matter how challenging or daunting the task may seem. For the longest time I was told that dancers can’t run, so I never thought about giving running a try, until my husband inspired me with the completion of his first marathon at Disney World in January 2013. I’m so glad that I haven’t let myself continue to fall victim to the idea that dancers don’t run, because running has opened me up to an entirely new sphere of fitness that I now cannot imagine myself living outside of.

I have no idea how I stuck with it, but I ate all Whole 30 approved foods, last night…huge accomplishment for me! Love Kathryn’s attitude, and I’ve just recently stopped comparing myself to others, and I’m finally starting to run…and “somewhat” like it!
Show off! HAHA JK! Nice work girlie!
I also started out dancing (when I was 3!) and continued all the way through college (it’s been 8 years since I’ve danced, though!) … and transitioned to running! AND my first marathon was also Disney (in 2010)! Funny coincidences π
Disney is so much fun to run through!
Its quite funny how similar our stories are!
I also think the Las Vegan RNR looks amazing! Its on my bucket list too!
