Weekly Workouts Roundup – Practice makes Progress!


Week of 5/3/2014
5/3 – Insanity Round 6 + T25 Core Speed
5/4 – 10k Run
5/5 – T25 Core Speed 10 mins + Power Yoga class (1.5 hr)
5/6 – 4 mile run + Headstand practice + mid day walk
5/7 –  Insanity Round 1 + mid day walk
5/8 – 4 Mile Run + Core work & Insanity
Planned: 5/9 – Walk + PM Yoga
Total Miles: 16.2

As we celebrated our 2 year anniversary this week — TGIF By the way! – and both adjusted to new work schedules and such, we’ve definitely been focusing on balancing life!

Workouts have been a HODGE PODGE of what I’ve been able to fit in along with what my body needs for the week. I’ve been focusing on flexibility and stretching while still keeping my runs consistent with less mileage. I’m learning that with anything new, yoga poses or form adjustments with running and workouts, that ANY Progress is POSITIVE! I repeat that to myself so I don’t become that perfectionist that wants to hit everything right on the first try – then what’s the point? Practice, practice, practice = progress. Without practice, I can’t expect to get any better at anything!

I’d been working on my ‘nugget’ which is an early stage of a yoga forearm stand. I tried it without being against a wall at first and that was a bad idea. So, each day I do a couple attempts for a few minutes. I’ve learned that while I’ve done yoga off and on for almost 10 years now, I can’t go ALL IN with hard movements – you’re bound to hurt yourself or not do well only discouraging your progress. So, I have learned to have patience. I’ve learned to humble myself with these headstands because they are not easy nor meant to be taken lightly. I’m now able to do a successful nugget and even half split! That’s taken me TONS of practice and patience – I know that I need to keep that to not only maintain my nugget but progress to a full headstand. Speaking of which, the next phase would be to do a full arm headstand, which is super tough, so I’ll live in forearm stand for a while, kthanks.

Fitfluential is also doing another challenge for the Month of May – #FFYoga. Each day they have a move you can look up with the hashtag on Instagram or Twitter and do that move. What a great reminder to stretch each day!
My good friend Krissy told me that her yoga instructor told her it’s called Yoga PRACTICE not Yoga PERFECT. I aim to remember that… respect the stretch and it will reward you with many positive returns!

    This is great! I love seeing people progress with their training, especially yoga, as I am relatively new to it also. I am not brave enough to try headstand though. I have been trying to get crow down! Have a wonderful weekend!

    That’s why yoga is called a practice. Every day we have to practice, practice, practice….. I love my yoga practice. I’m feeling nice and bendy now with the pregnancy, but I have to remind myself that certain postures are off limits right now. Seeing your nugget inspires me to attempt some inversions, but I know now is probably not the time. Keep it up and you’ll be flying high with headstands in no time.

    Look at you hit that headstand! I go through yoga phases where I can’t get enough, but I’m currently experiencing a dry spell; it’s tough to fit in everything–and to find that balance.

    Awesome, girl! I just started T25. Trying to gain some strength while I’m not running! Love the modifier. Interested on how to maintain it & run!
