INSANITY will always have a special place in my heart as my SOULMATE workout. Back when I did it in 2010, I found a stronger sense of self not only on the outside but also on the inside! When Max:30 came out, I knew I was ready to take it on for my birthday workout and was SO excited to be doing shorter versions of a tough workout that I knew worked.
I have yet to meet someone or know someone [myself included] for whom this workout DIDN’T work and show results that were amazing! It’s the right mix of high intensity interval training blended with body resistance training to build strength using one’s body as their only form of equipment!
After I had the baby, I knew I had to take things lower impact because of the relaxin hormone that still flowed through my bones and joints (making the body super sensitive to jumping and movement.) It’s always tough for someone like myself to remain humble and take things one day at a time so that strength can be rebuilt, but also so that patience is used to allow one’s body to recover from birthing a human!
After 3 months postpartum, I decided I wanted to do INSANITY Max:30 for a 3rd round from start to finish! My husband decided to do it again with me so that we were on track with our workouts together – since they tend to work out the best at 5am while our baby is sleeping away in her room.
The way that it’s laid out, INSANITY Max:30 takes you from month one of foundation building with the body into month 2 which strengthens you with longer intervals and additional power moves. My goal going into month 1 was to do the full out moves [slower if needed] using proper form. My husband and I are both certified as INSANITY instructors, so it keeps us focused on leading by example for others!
I always say that it takes 3 weeks to make a habit, but 3 days to break one. The first two weeks of this program were ROUGH. I hadn’t done burpees since I was maybe in week 30 or so of being pregnant [and that’s pushing it] and I wanted to punch Shaun T in the face when he made them look seamless and ‘easy.’ I remember when we worked out with him in person, I ASKED to do burpee lunges like a crazy person. I had to channel that GUNG HO attitude to put up or shut up and get these 30 minute sprinkles of my day DONE! I just felt OFF – my core, my upper body strength – it felt like I was starting back over again from square one.
Since I’ve begun coaching a year-long group of women, it’s been a saving grace for me also. I am able to check in with them each day and I know that many of them are doing the same program as me. Pushing through workouts and eating well is only part of the weight loss journey of life; being accountable OUT LOUD is the other part!
I was also motivated to do my Month 1 results from MAX:30 and see how I did since coming home from having the baby.
MONTH 1 RESULTS FROM INSANITY MAX 30:
3.5 inches lost
3.1 lbs lost
OVERALL WEIGHT LOSS FROM NOVEMBER 2016 (Baby K’s arrival):
14+ inches lost
20 lbs lost
I am NOT focused on the numbers each month as much as I am focused on my body’s transformation into my FITTEST MOM BOD! I know that I may never get back to my pre-baby body so not focusing on it gives me more inspiration to be my best NOW. I feel my hips shifting back into ‘place’ and my strength in my core allowing me to do tougher moves and make them better. I am inspired by showing my little girl how hard work WILL pay off and that your body will respond to any challenge you ask of it – the goal isn’t to be skinny or see a low number on the scale, but it’s to perform better each and every day!
