Feeling Holy and Whole: Blending Fitness and Faith

If you know me well, you know that my story started about 7 years ago. I hadn’t grown up in the church and also didn’t have a clear understanding of what it meant to believe in God and love His son Jesus. What I did know, that moment in 2010 when I was saved, was that I needed someone’s help who came to my rescue without me really needing to do more than just ASK.


Because of all my faith journey has done in my life, I’ve worked to make it an important focus for myself. Life’s always going to be crazy, whether I was a mom or not, so making God come first was a necessary way to stay afloat.


Fitness is so much more than a focus on weight loss, getting toned, fitting into those special shorts, or aesthetically changing our form. When we have the faith to realize our bodies were meant to be honored as a mirror image of God, fitness takes on a whole new purpose.


1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NIV
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.


When I lived in Florida, I had a Faith & Fitness group who met at our local community center. We joined hands once a week in prayer before jumping into a fun workout together as sisters. Now that I’ve come out of the new mom fog, I was happy to join a local friend to start this group here in our Henderson/Las Vegas area.




Through my friendships here in the valley, I’ve had the chance to meet some amazing women to walk on this journey with. Friendships themselves are precious; adding the element of accountability and prayer makes it that much more meaningful.

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.


Meeting on Tuesday evenings, we’ve had around 15 girls join us with our new Holy and Whole group! My friend and I trade off choosing scripture to center our time around before I lead the girls in a workout fit for all levels. The basis of our workout is the fact that SELF ACCEPTANCE precedes TRANSFORMATION. We’re not a weight loss group; we’re a sisterhood taking time to honor our bodies at temples.


I’m not only a group fitness instructor and trainer, but a girl who used to see her body as a physical form to shape and mold in whatever way was easiest. All this did was hurt me inside and out. I had to finally see that if I honored myself and took care of my health, that everything else came in line because of the respect I gave my body.


This is what I hope to share with my Holy & Whole group,  and also with anyone who needs to hear that truth. xo
