When your vices become devices to control all that makes you feel whole, it’s time to revolutionize!
I’m Katrina Pilkington, I also go by Kat. I’m a woman living life thriving in the chaos – much like many of you reading this.
I am a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, Weight Loss Specialist, Youth Exercise Specialist, Women’s Fitness Specialist, Nutrition Coach, … all of the specializations … and an AFAA Group Fitness Instructor and Wellness Workshop Presenter … also studying to complete my Masters of Science degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion: Nutrition and Wellness. I work not only as a wellness and fitness educator, but also an educator in the space of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
I grew up, a multiracial Black woman, dealing with imposter syndrome in all circles. This feeling lead me to innately discover how to fit into circles and find common ground with inclusion from a unique perspective. Venturing into corporate life, I developed a passion for work with diversity, equity, and inclusion. I now work in the space of using my mix of skills as a means to unify humans in the realm of finding common ground and understanding how implicit bias and systemic classism form division instead of unification in fitness and in our world.
I was inspired to change careers after my own humbling experience battling poor health and weight issues. I had to take OWNERSHIP of my life by taking the time to learn about food and about movement in a way that I could shift my mindset to a space of internal change [not just external] and revolutionize thinking for those I work with.
My goal is to pay forward the knowledge I’ve gained to be a catalyst for others to change the trajectory of their own health!
My family thrives on nutrition that is plant-based and incorporates most of our intake around whole foods derivatives. Our transition to a plant-based diet in 2017 forever changed our life inside and out. I began to take a deeper dive into nutrition to understand how my earlier years of eating were fueled by survival and not self-care. We ate what we could afford, and what we could afford lacked in nutrition substantially. As a plant-based eater, I work to look at my nutrition as a means of taking back my health as a means of revolt against societal norms and false teachings of the media world. There are ways to eat plants that won’t break the bank, while we fight to increase accessibility to those who need resources and this same opportunity to healthy options for their families.
I have worked as a group fitness coordinator in multiple studios, mentored and trained over 300 group fitness instructors and personal trainers all over the country, taught countless group fitness classes, trained personal training clients of all varieties, and have lead workshops globally online and in-person.
There was is no quick-fix or magic pill. If we take the time to LEARN about the way food can fuel us and MOVE in the way we were made to move, we can live our best lives in a more wholesome way.
I HATE scary movies, EXCEPT anything Zombie related – they make me laugh like it’s no one’s business! However, I’ll never join you in a scary haunted house. Nope. I’ll RUN.
I LOVE MOVING CONSTANTLY. You can call me a BUSY BODY.
I’ll always invest in EXPERIENCES > THINGS.
I never played organized sports nor did anything truly active until I hit 30 [thus starting my fitness journey and lifestyle] even though I was a tomboy. I was pretty introverted most of my life until I got into fitness! It was my outlet.
I never imagined I would get married or have children. Here I am though!
